平野政志 Masashi Hirano

Masashi Hirano uses the traditional technique called Makayke (真焼け)(pure firing) instead of Yakishime(焼締め)or Shizennyu(自然釉)(natural ash glazing).

Mayake has a beautiful texture of a reflection of the fire frame, had started in the end of Edo period, and carried the technique by Toei kiln(陶栄窯)(specified to the important cultural assets) but since 1974, because of the lack of coal, the tradition keepers of Mayake has decreased. Masashi Hirano would like to pursuit the tradition using wood burning kiln without placing ash.
